Hemkund Sahib is situated at an altitude of 4,329 mts above sea level in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. Hemkund literally suggests ‘lake of snow’ and the pristine water of this lake is as cold as snow.

Hemkunt Sahib is situated 6 km from Ghangharia. The star shaped Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara is made up of stone and concrete masonry and it is located on the shores of the pristine Hemkund.
The circumference of the crystal clear Hemkund is 2 km. Ghangaria is the last human habitation centre on the way To Hemkund Sahib. Ghangharia (3,046 mts) is a scenic hamlet, situated 13 kms from Govindghat.
Hemkund Sahib Legend According to myths and legends, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Govind Singhji meditated at Hemkund Sahib For years. A temple dedicated to Laxman, brother of Lord Rama is also located in the vicinity of the gurudwara.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Hemkund Sahib Yatra starts on June 1 every year, and ends on October 5
HOW TO REACH: Accessible by roads to Gobind Ghat from places like Joshimath, Rishikesh, Dehradun, etc. and then Trek start from Gobind Ghat, Jolly Grant, is the nearest airport. Rishikesh railway station, serves as the nearest railway station. Taxis and buses are available from Rishikesh.
